On Rotten Tomatoes the film has an approval rating of 92% based on 262 reviews, and an average rating of 7.6/10. Some of the dialogue can get pretty awkward.The poster sort of gives away the ending.The high amounts of jump-scares may not please audiences.It manages to scare without using gore or dark scenes.Lots of enjoyable black comedy and slapstick.A great and scary opening scene showing a young kid being dragged to hell for stealing from a gypsy woman.The film actually builds up suspense with a small score and then lets the scare happen. It doesn't use the typical jump-scares, where there is silence when all of a sudden a loud scream happens. It was also one of the horror films of the 2000's that was original and not one of those remakes and reboots.Sylvia Gnaush is a very intimidating antagonist. Christine is a very likable character, and one can feel very sorry for her with all of the torment she has to put up with for three days.It manages to bring back fun to horror, with hilarious moments and great scares, just like The Evil Dead, another film directed by Sam Raimi. Christine seeks a psychic's help to break the curse, but the price to save her soul may be more than she can pay. In retaliation, the crone places a curse on Christine, threatening her soul with eternal damnation. But her heavenly life becomes hellish when, in an effort to impress her boss, she denies an old woman's request for an extension on her home loan. Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) has a loving boyfriend (Justin Long) and a great job at a Los Angeles bank.
